What Helps in Digestion After Overeating

Overeating is inevitable, particularly when it is your favourite dish, but it is followed by regret and guilt. The following are some digestive-system-healing suggestions:

What Helps in Digestion After Overeating

Take a walk

After overeating, going for a walk can help to stimulate your digestion, clear your thoughts, and make your body feel better. It can also help in eliminating some of the extra calories gained from overeating.

However, don’t overdo it because doing a serious workout/strengthening activity can cause blood to go to your leg instead of your stomach, which can slow the digestion.

Don’t take a nap

After overeating, you will more likely want to lie down and then go to sleep, which can worsen acid reflux (GERD) and slow digestion. So, better stay upright until your food has been digested in the stomach.

Drink water

Drinkingplenty of water is beneficial to the body, and it can also help you lose weight and control your appetite. Drinking a cup of water (about 8 ounces) after a big meal may help your body get rid of excess salt that is usually obtained from meals.

It can also help in the prevention of constipation. Continue to drink water throughout the day to stay hydrated.

Stay Calm

When you’re overeating, don’t feel too bad about yourself. This can make you depressed, and stress can lead you to binge eat again. Stress may cause problems on your stomach, causing indigestion, especially when you’re feeling guilty.

So, the next time you have a meal, better plan ahead of time and prevent being emotional to avoid overeating.

How Can You Avoid Overeating?

  • Eat plenty of vegetable and fruit
  • Eat slowly and limit distraction like TV and handphone
  • Eat slowly by chewing the food thoroughly
  • Manage stress
  • Plan ahead your meals
  • Stay hydrated
  • Stay physically active
